Are We Having Fun Yet?
Sat February 02, 2008
So important to have fun - while you get to world-class at work and in life. At my leadership presentations, one of the first questions I ask is: "who here wants to have a remarkably fun time - while you learn about Leading Without Title?" Nearly every hand always shoots up. Adults are nothing more than children in grown up bodies I sometimes consider. I'm about to set out on a lengthy and intense European tour that will include visits to Sweden, Dublin and Belfast, Spain, Prague, Lithuania and Estonia before heading down to Caracas. The schedule's full of media and presentations on how everyone can lead and get to excellence. It could overwhelm me - all the travel and the demands and the events. So here's what I did to stay excited/inspired/enthusiastic about the tour: I asked myself a simple question: "How can I make this the most fun tour yet?" That very question opened up a floodgate of ideas: visit the opera in Prague, see a rock band in Dublin, discover the best cafe in Vilnius, see the best art gallery in Bilbao. Because of my question, the whole trip has been reframed for me. I'm so excited. I'll learn/grow/expand. And I know I'll have fun. P.S. For a listing of the tour events please click here.
