Trust The Gut
Tue September 16, 2008
People told me no one would ever read "The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari". Critics laughed at my dream of bringing this message of hope and inspiration to people who wanted to hear (read) it. The editor who read the self-published edition suggested I find another calling (I've framed his rejection letter to me and hung it in my library at home). But I didn't give up. I followed my instincts. I trusted my gut.
The founders of Google tried to sell their patented technology for $1 million. Everyone they approached passed on their offer. They didn't get the opportunity. They didn't connect with the chance. They couldn't see The Bigger Picture (too stuck in the past and their old way of being/doing). But Brin and Page did. They didn't give up (a cliche I run my life by: Don't Give Up. Ever!). Google's worth a cool $141 billion today.
Trust your gut. Listen to your heart. This world wasn't built by people with small vision and minor thoughts. It was built by the misfits, eccentrics and oddballs who had the courage to passionately follow the voice of their dreams. To think different (thanks Apple). To endure the petty put downs of critics for the beautiful pursuit of doing something special, wonderful and great. You can (must) too.
