Parents ask me constantly why they should send their kids to leadership camp or even summer camp in general. To them, I have only one simple answer. It will change their lives.

There are some young people that have the ability to excel, the ability to rise above the ordinary. Why is that? Why do some kids just coast through their scholastic careers with confidence and such energy to grow and learn?   Why can others dedicate every waking moment to a dream of stardom?

The reason is because they have linked their future to their present. My nephew, for example, has an undeniable desire to play professional hockey. He has no problem getting up at 5am to practice. He can play three games in 24 hours and has. He can spend an hour or two preparing his skates for the next day’s game. Now ask him to do homework or study for an upcoming exam… that’s like “pulling teeth”.

So what’s the difference?

Each night, you can turn on the television, surf the net or see a magazine with the latest, greatest, richest and most successful athletes posing, … showing off a very powerful and exciting potential future.  Who wouldn’t be enticed?

Think about celebrities like Donald Trump or Richard Branson.  Some people have wondered how they made it. What powerful techniques did they use? It’s easy to show off what a professional athlete, movie star or musician can obtain with their level of fame. It’s much harder to explain the powerful life that can be created through vision, goals and dedication to an end result.

Here’s the reality.  My nephew has a much greater chance of not becoming a highly paid professional athlete than he does of becoming one.

And that’s where the youth leadership programs at YLCC come in to play!
