A Good Man Gone
Wed December 20, 2006
I was just going through a pile of books on my desk in my creative room at home. Saw "Don't Get Scrooged" by my friend Richard Carlson, an author known to millions for his book "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff". Richard passed away last week. At the age of 45. I still can't believe he's gone.
I flipped open the book (that I blogged about a few days ago). Richard was en route to New York from California to do a tv show when he died of a heart attack. I flipped through the first few pages. Saw his familiar handwriting: "Robin, your lifelong friend and brother! Peace, Richard" this very special human being wrote to me. A good man's gone. A man who cared. Who celebrated life. Who adored his family. And who left an incredible legacy. Sure, we've all heard life is short so live greatly today. But let's not forget it. During this holiday time, tell your loved ones you love them. Think about your silenced dreams. Reflect on your repressed potential and what you want your life to stand for. And be kind. Because when you're gone, that'll matter more than you can ever imagine. Richard got that. I'll miss him.
