Do Customers Line Up?
Tue September 02, 2008

In New York City, one of my favorite places on Earth. Just walking down 5th avenue on my way to a meeting. Walked past all the chic stores like Gucci and Prada and Bulgari. But only one literally had a line up (complete with velvet rope and security guards to get in). Abercrombie and Fitch.

Made me think. About dazzling businesses. And truly remarkable businesspeople. They offer so much value and create such wow of an experience and treat customers so well that people actually line up to do business with them (think of U2 and Madonna on this line of reasoning as well please).

In a world filled with happy to be average businesses, only a few play in the rare air of extraordinary. Why? Because it's easy to coast. Easy to just get by. Easy to just make a living versus investing the time/energy/talent to operate at Genius.

But those that chose to get the line ups. And the accolades. And the recognition. And the business.
