Personal Message from Robin: Leaders Shape Culture; Culture Shapes Teams

Visionary companies are great communities. They are places where it is safe to be human.  Where people support each other. Where people are connected. Where people trust each other. And the result of support, connection and trust? Extraordinary teams. And great companies are composed of extraordinary teams.

Leaders shape the communities that breed extraordinary teams. They enrich culture and connect people to each other's potential. Play your highest game and Lead Without Title by shaping your organizations culture. Take a moment now to dedicating yourself to doing one thing in the next week that will bring your team together. Here are some strategies that I've shared with my clients:

Start the Discussion:

Talk about your hopes for the organizations culture. Share your vision of how rich a community you can be. Then listen to your team's aspirations. People need a sense of belonging. Bring that into the open by leading the conversation on culture.

Write a Letter:

Take the time to craft a hand-written note of praise to someone you know who deserves it. Let them know how their actions or attitude affected you and lifted the team. People who feel appreciated invest more in their organizations.

Listen Relentlessly
:

Nothing tells people that you are committed to them like true listening. Challenge yourself to  focus on your conversational partner and give them the gift of your complete attention. Avoid the support as quickly as deep listening.

Provide Support:

Instead of criticizing a colleagues idea at a meeting find a way to  support it. Find a way to make your team mates look brilliant.Find a  way to get them to the next level. Extraordinary teams are composed of people who make each other look like geniuses.

Under-promise; Over-deliver:

Increase the trust in your organization by fulfilling your commitments impeccably. Over-deliver on each of your 2 do's. Every commitment you over-deliver on increases the amount of trust in your team. It also sets a powerful leadership example..
