The 2 Massage Protocol


Hi, it's Robin Sharma, Author of The Leader Who Had No Title, Founder of The Titan Academy. Welcome to this podcast episode. You're going to love this one because it's all about The 2 Massage Protocol. A lot of people have been asking me to record a deconstruction of this SOP, standard operating procedure, that I teach to people at my annual event, The Titan Summit, which I've been running for many years, as well as Personal Mastery Academy, which happens every June. I want to share a lot of gratitude with you for the fact that you've taken the time out of your busy day to be with me here in this mastery session. Now you're saying, "Why?" Well, you've heard me talk about The 2x3x Mindset. When you work on your personal mastery, you awaken your mindset, your heartset, your healthset, and your soulset. When you get those four interior empires to world class, you become a force of nature out in the world, and you do epic things. You want to work on your personal mastery like you're doing here with me right now by listening to this episode. Then the second thing you want to do is you want to work on your professional capability. You want to be the heavyweight campion of your game. You want to dial in your sport, whether your sport is entrepreneurship, whether your sport is being a chef, whether your sport is being a coder, whether your sport is being a manager, whether you're an entrepreneur, a CEO, an astronaut, a poet.


I don't know what it is. But when you focus on your personal mastery and your professional capability and you really work on those ... I'm talking about hours every day if you are serious about leading the field ... what starts to happen is this: you become a vastly more valuable person. You become very aware. That's why I say, "Education is inoculation against disruption." That's why I suggest to you with great love and respect: leadership belongs to the learners. Maya Angelou said it beautifully. She said, "When you know better, you can do better." As I share in one of the previous mastery sessions, where I deconstruct my very well-known three-step success formula ... which has helped so many people across the planet ... with better awareness, you can make better choices. With better choices, you're going to see better results.


I mean, it's the awareness that you bring to every day based on your learning, based on your investments in training. Well, what does that do? It gives you the ability each day to make better choices, better decisions. You'll get a great life. It's just a series of beautiful choices done daily, stacked on over time. When you get great awareness, heightened awareness, more acute awareness of what it means to be a leader, an elite performer, an 'A' player, an awesome being, an epic producer, a fit human being, a loving human ... it just goes on. With that awareness via your learning, you can make better decisions every day, better choices. With better daily decisions that most people just don't have the acumen to make, what happens? You're going to get better results.


If you do that every single day ... You've heard my brain tattoo over and over, and I share it over and over, because repetition is the mother of mastery installation. Small daily, seemingly insignificant improvements when done consistently over time will lead you to stunning results. Researches like Angela Duckworth at University of Pennsylvania have coined a term 'mundanity.' When they have studied ... the West Point graduates, the best sales people, the best students ... these people are practicing mundanity. Mundanity just means it's the seemingly invisible, unimportant, daily habits, rituals, routines, iterations, optimizations that just don't seem like they matter. They're so simple to do. They're so simple and easy not to do.


But mundanity means, just like Kobe, just like Federer, just like Lewis Hamilton, just like Jean-Michel Basquiat, just like Ferran Adrià, the great chef, just like whoever the great ... you know, an Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, a Beyoncé, a Kanye, these people understand that it's the small, little, micro wins done via practice every day that leads to gorgeous, sustainable, magnificent results. While the world and the majority and the 95% are chasing some heroic, revolutionary act that will change the game, you ... because you're an 'A' player, because you're a legend, an icon, a titan, and someone who really wants to make your mark on history ... focus monomaniacally on the little wins, what I call the micro wins, done consistently over time. And then the days slip into weeks, and the weeks slip into months, and the months slip into years.


So I'd summarize that little piece today in this session by: you really just want to own your day, because your days really are your life in miniature. If you can just guard and protect and manufacture and orchestrate a gorgeous day, and then you wire in the habit of doing that daily ... well, those days, those gorgeous days, slip into gorgeous weeks, gorgeous months, gorgeous quarters, gorgeous years, gorgeous decades, and ultimately, you become a history maker. Let me circle back, dial in, calibrate The 2 Massage Protocol. Well, for going on to almost 20 years, two times a week, on my weekly schedule ... because the things that get scheduled are the things that get done ... I have a time block for a 90-minute massage. Again, I do it two times a week. I will share with you very transparently with great love and respect as I always bring to these podcast episodes, massage is one of the things that saved my life.


I have traveled the planet relentlessly for going into my third decade. I keep a very intense pace, also very balanced pace. I am a creative person. I am living a creative life. I have a lot of things on my plate. There are a lot of demands on my shoulders. I do it with great love because I love to be an instrument of service. Having said that, I'm rarely ... like, the last cold I had would probably be a long time ago. I am never sick. I have, in many ways, fireproofed my inner psychology, physiology, mentality, humanity, and part of that is with The 2 Massage Protocol. The simple idea I want you to walk away from this episode is this. And, you know what? Any disruptive idea is going to scare you. Any new routine that I teach to you is going to sometimes make you get a little scared, a little insecure, or default into victimitis excusitis.


In other words, "Robin, I can't do it because ... " fill in the blank of the excuse of the day. "I don't have enough time." "I don't have enough money." "This wouldn't work for me." Here's one I hear a lot of when I coach the billionaires, "What would my team think?" "I'm too busy to do that." Well, I often say to them, "You're too busy not to install The 2 Massage Protocol." When I work with the titans at the Titan Summit, a lot of them are superstar athletes, superstar filmmakers, superstar entrepreneurs. Some of the most successful people on the planet try to get into this room every single year. When I teach The 2 Massage Protocol, sometimes there is some ... let me just say loving and respectful ... resistance.

But that's good. Because any good idea, any new idea, anything that's really going to shift the game for you is going to frighten you and terrify you, or maybe feel a little insecure or a little irrelevant at first because it's a new idea. You know this, but the game is blue ocean. The game is not to run your old rituals. Because the rituals, routines, protocols that you once did, great. The core ones, keep them, but you've always got to be open to new and better optimizations and hacks and iterations of the way you live your day. Just do this ... Let's just say, here's a life experiment. For the next 30 days, I want you to schedule on your weekly plan ... because again, the things that get scheduled are the things that get done ... two 90-minute massages. Again, if you say, "Well, I can't afford it," do a trade. Do a barter with someone.


If you do have the money, but you say, "It's not worth the investment," I'm here with love and respect to share with you: you are the investment. You will make back the money in multiples. Warren Buffett taught me this: don't worry about the money that you spend. Focus a lot more on the value you receive. The victim says, "I'm not going to buy your book, Robin. It's $20." That happened to me a few weekends ago. I was talking about a book that I was reading ... it wasn't my book ... and I shared with someone at a coffee stand. I said, "You've got to read this book." He was a young guy. He was an entrepreneur. I wanted to help him live his dreams. I said, "You've got to read this book." His default ... It happened in a second. That's how strong our core beliefs are. And we don't even know them because these are subconscious beliefs.


He said, "How much does it cost?" I wanted to do that emoji, like boom. What? Because I love people. I love their potential. He said, "How much does it cost?" It's a $20 book. But I could see he's stuck in that victimhood around, "Oh, it's a $20 book." To me, it's like, if you don't devour that book and read it five times and deconstruct it in your journal, it's going to cost you your fortune. The book you don't read could lead to the empire you don't build. I use that word 'empires' a lot in these podcasts. That could be an economic empire, but it could also be an empire of creativity. It could be an empire of love. It could be an empire of productivity. It could be an empire of humanity. It could be an empire of philanthropy. Pick it yourself, but I want you for the next 30 days: two massages every single week, 90 minutes.


Here are the benefits I'm going to leave you with. You'll be so much more peaceful. You'll never be sick. Fitness, of course, nutrition, rest, we can talk about those in another episode, but massage helps me get up early. Like I said, you just feel amazing. You release oxytocin, which makes you feel relaxed. You think more quickly. You're a lot more creative. You're less reactive. You feel strong. There's just a fire in the belly. And it just goes on and on. It allows you to protect your game so you can go out there in the world and rock your craft and calibrate your sport and produce poetry that amounts to legendary. Definitely get this done.


And I'm going to repeat it again: two massages, 90 minutes, every single week for the next 30 days. Just try it out. If you're serious, do it for the next 90 days.
